A gift of goodness with an entertaining AR story to explain it.

For save the children, as for many charity organisations, Christmas season is a hugely important campaign period. One of the best sellers are simple gift certificates, an important factor for raising funds for the organisation. The problem though is that they’re honestly quite boring, often being a siple printed card or even just an SMS.
To make them more exciting and give the receiver a more engaging experience we created an augmented reality format that told 6 unique 3D stores connected to Save the childrens organisation and what the money of the gift goes to.

The products were sold through the Save The childrens web shop and were delivered through an SMS and a webAR format that did not require any app install or social media account. This was an important factor to be able to share the gift with anyone owning a smartphone.
We used Google’s ModelViewer framework to show the AR animations in gltf formats for Android and with a fallback USDZ for apple devices, but allowing the same experience in browsers across devices and platforms. My role was finding the appropriate technology and working together with the clients digital agency to develop the UX and framework while developing the technical assets and creative with our team. A lot of time went into presenting and demonstrating the technology and possibilities to the client.
